Dodgeball Practice

I always have students begging to play dodgeball.  It is also one of my favorite activities, but it isn't in our curriculum.  If you would like to join a dodgeball program it is at Fancher.  The registration deadline is quickly approaching.  Click on the following link to read about it

No School on Monday September 30th. What Are Your Plans?

What Are You Doing on September 30th

If you don’t have anything to do on September 30th PEAK is having a “School’s Out Day Camp” at Vowles.  Prices range from $30-$35.

Welcome to the New School Year!

The school year is off to a great start.  Every year our students begin Physical Education with soccer.  During this unit students are able to practice skills and participate in lead up games.  Our lead up games and activities allow students to use different skills that will be used in a game of soccer.  Students have been practicing foot dribble, passing, kicking, and goal tending.
Fifth and sixth graders will have the opportunity to create teams.  I always find it amusing to see the names that the students come up with for their teams.  The teams will choose captains and will participate in a tournament.
Fourth graders do not compete in a tournament, but they will play in soccer games.

The character word that will be the emphasis of our tournament will be sportsmanship.

As always I ask that the students bring proper shoes for being active.  This allows them to be safe during activity.

Hot Shot Results

Students competed in a basketball shooting competition called Hot Shots.  There were five spots to shoot from placed around the key.
  • Two close spots were worth 1 point each.
  • There were two farther spots worth 2 points.
  • The last spot was located at the free throw line and it was worth 3 points.
There was a time limit of 1 minute.  The students had to shoot from each spot one time, then the rest of the minute was theirs to shoot from any spot.  This was done during stations and the other people in the station were able to help keep track of the points of the competitor.

The top ten list is on the results page.  CLICK HERE (<-- I will link the page when I get home my computer is too slow at school) (you can also click on the Teams & Results tab on the top of the page)

The sixth grade team from Ms. Mako's room won.  The team captain was Oaklie and the other team members were Kelsey, Lindsay, Deontae', Dylan, and Micaiah - I spelled it correctly :).

The fifth grade class champions were from Mrs. Spayd's class and were led by captain Maggie P.  the rest of her team consisted of Zack, Angel R., Carlos, and Kaleb.  You've got it next year!

The first game was close 15-11.  During the second game the sixth graders took an early lead to dominate 15-3.

Basketball & Gus Macker Tournament

We are beginning our basketball unit.  The unit began with dribbling, ball handling, passing, and shooting.  I did mention a local 3-on-3 basketball tournament that is coming to CMU from April 27-28.  If you would like to know more about it click on the following link to read about it and access the registration:

I hope some girls and boys sign up so I can watch them in action.

JRFH Total $ Raised...

$2,226.30 which, in my opinion, blows away last year's McGuire donation of $1,776.00.  Thank you to all of you that donated to the American Heart Association during our Jump Rope for Heart month of February.  My goal was to beat last year's total.  Does this mean next year we will have to raise even more money?  We will have to make things exciting! :)

The fantastic fourth graders raised the most with $1,210!  Great job McGuire 4th graders!  Anna M. raised the most in the whole school with $325!

Thank you again for supporting the American Heart Association!

**JUMP ROPE FOR HEART**

Jump rope is under way and every year we ask for donation to the American Heart Association.  Packets have been sent home and although they are a little later this year we are still going to have our event.  Those snow/ice days really put a damper on our Jump Rope for Heart timeline.  I will be sending out McGuire's donation the week of March 4th, so I ask that all donations be turned in by Friday, March 1st.

Want to know more about Jump Rope for Heart click here.

For more scientific information about your heart watch the following kid friendly video...

Jump Rope for Heart Challenges Results

Volleyball Videos

Well, Ladies and Gentlemen, I have finally figured out how to post videos from my phone.  There may be duplicates and the quality isn't that great, but we have video.  I tried to add one or two from each class and I hope I didn't forget any.  This iPhone 5 is really cool.  I can do so much with it (like relax on the couch while adding videos to a blog).

The videos are located at the bottom of the Volleyball Pictures tab on the top of the screen. Or you can view them by clicking here.

Volleyball Tournament

This week the 5th and 6th graders were able to begin the Volleyball Tournament.  They are scheduled to play the other two teams.  During tournament play, they will play two games to 15 points (they have to win by two points).

Fifth grader, Katy, from team Spikers in Mrs. Oullette's class is focusing on her underhand serve.

The team rosters and tournament results will be posted on the Tournament Teams & Results page.  click here

I have a new phone and have been taking pictures and video during class.  Since the lighting isn't very bright in the gym, a lot of the pictures don't have the best quality.  I still posted most of the pictures and I am trying to figure out how to upload my videos.  Consider this to be continued...
